Uninstall HPLIP

Asked by David Vincent-Jones

Ubuntu 8.10; printer Photosmart Pro B8850
Somewhare my HPLIP install must be a mess and I want to make sure that I have an absolutely clean reinstall.
Previously a reinstall has not solved my problems.
I would appreciate your help in finding and removing all traces of any HPLIP drivers and the Toolbox prior to the rebuild.

Hey David,

To uninstall hplip:

sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip
sudo rm -rf /etc/hp
sudo rm -rf ~/.hplip

This should totally remove HPLIP.

It appears that things went well with the clean-out and reinstall... However I also removed the HP Toolbox (to make sure).
Now having reinstalled separately the toolbox I cannot find its icon ... any ideas?

Yes ... the Gnome icon that allows me to view the status of inks and printer status etc.
This was normally at Applications/Accesories/HP Toolbox. ...
Applications/Add-Install shows that it is installed ... but no icon shows

OK .. found "HP Device Manager" in the install folder of the current version of HPLIP and double clicking that has now put an icon onto my top bar .... totally satisfactory.
I would guess that the ' HP Toolbox' was not needed ... probably need to get rid of that.

There is still a problem of only 7 out of the 8 inks being displayed ... but that is another problem.
