Send to only one account?

Asked by Andreas Streim

I have two main accounts in Gwibber (twitter, identi.ca). I sometimes use a second twitter-account; it would be nice to add it to Gwibber, but I don't want to send any messages to this account also, but I would like to have it like a seperate account.

So I would like something like a "split account"-feature, where I can select to which account a message is sent after writing it.

Any chance that Gwibber can be used for that in the future?

You can currently choose which accounts will be sent a message in the Manage Accounts section, however I do agree it would be handy to have an option to have a drop box or some way of selecting which accounts will be updated on the fly.

Yeah, I know the account-settings-page. But it's not a real option to change there, which account will receive a message before every message you send, is it? :-)

But maybe there will be a solution in a future version...

Maybe the solution is:

(here it's the messages)

[x]twitter [x]Identi.ca [x]jaiku
[......write messages here...(cancel)]|

For example, if in some moment i don't want to send for jaiku... i simple cancel the [x] of jaiku... the word jaiku in the example would be replaced by an icon of jaiku, twitter, etc...
By default, it'll always be marked, the [x], of all you config to be able to send messages by that account.
When i don't want to use jaiku, it would be:

(here it's the messages)

[x]twitter [x]Identi.ca [_]jaiku
[......write messages here...(cancel)]|

I agree it is an important to gwibber! :)

(I don't know English very well... Sorry)

I think that would be fine, just put the "send" part of the account manager on the main page (because it realistically can vary with each message), I think it makes good sense, and I don't think it's an uncommon situation, who wants to paste exactly the same thing to facebook as twitter?

I'd really love this solution in gwibber.

I will add my +1 to this. This is a question I was getting ready to ask, and a seamless way to do this from the main gwibber interface would be stellar.

Ditto. I switch back and forth a lot, so to have to keep opening the account manager is annoying.

I was thinking same thing on this topic. Sometimes I would prefer to just send to twitter, and not the other accounts, and other times to all accounts. it just varies from message to message. I like henry's idea personally. check boxes would be cool, though people with multiple twitter, indenti.ca, etc, could become confusing...

in theory, you could have the icons for each protocol, and when you hovered the protocol icon, have the user name for that account show up in a tool tip/box thing (think like when you hover your mouse over the reload button on your web browser, with firefox a message pops up "reload current page." Same idea, but with account user name), so that you know which account you are enabling/disabling for that message.

How was this solved? I don't see any options in the Editor pane and going to Accounts every time I want to send a message to only one or two accounts is bothersome and easily forgettable.

It appears that if you are in the messages area of a specific protocol, your sent message will go through that account only. Otherwise, it will follow the Accounts menu settings (I think; I haven't tested the "otherwise" part out, but just tested the messages area behavior).

For example, if you: Have a Twitter account set to Send Messages but you go into the Facebook stream, and post, then you will actually end up sending in Facebook with nothing sent in Twitter.

(I'm running the 2.0.0~bzr491-0ubuntu2~daily1~karmic version from the gwibber-daily PPA.)
