committ directly to branch when fixing a bug?

Yes, you are supposed to be able to do it. There is however a bug that
prevents it from working correctly without editing a bzr file. IIRC
the bug has already been filed.

If you'd like to set the config directly while you wait for the fix, just change:

.bzr/branch/branch.conf

You'll find the parent and push branches there and simply change them to point directly at the branch. Make sure they're the same though.
