Mirantis OpenStack v 7.0: Scaling up a node - How to add a disk on a Ceph node without affecting Fuel configuration?

Hi,

I need to scale up one Ceph node on my OpenStack environment? Can you please advise for a proper procedure on this without affecting the Fuel/OpenStack configuration?

I hope this form of use case can be integrated/automated on the Fuel GUI. Disk configuration of nodes should still be able to be modified even after the deployment.

I know we can do the scale out approach by adding another ceph node to the cluster, but what about scaling up a ceph node?

Hello, Zeus.

You can add new OSD to existing cepg-osd node using instructions:
http://docs.ceph.com/docs/v0.80/rados/operations/add-or-rm-osds/

Please pay attention, that after node was deployed it configuration locked and additional disks will be not displayed into Fuel Web UI.

Ah yes, thanks for that. I've also used the documentation you've sent and as specified, the additonal disk space was not displayed on Fuel Web UI.

Is it included on your milestone for Mirantis OpenStack 7.1 / 8.0? I hope it is and it would be much better if Fuel Web UI will have an interface for scaling up Ceph nodes.

Greetings, Zeus,

there will be no 7.1, next release will be 8.0.
After deployment, Fuel UI won't show modifications (such as additional disks) for provisioned and deployed nodes. But we plan to integrate Calamari as a nice UI for Ceph, as desired feature.
