Bug Description

External display doesn't work with Lubuntu LiveCD 11.10

Dell D610 laptop
lshw: Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller

I do get the intial choice screen for Language & Try/Install, I get the 'Lubutu .....' loading screen, then a brief bit of CLI, but not the final desktop.

Fn-F8 to switch between laptop screen and external display has no effect. That does work on the initial screens before desktop. That also works on Ubuntu LiveCD 11.10.

I'm afraid this is as far as I can go with it. The backlight doesn't work on this laptop, so I'm jammed till the next Lubuntu.

With the backlight out you can see a faint ghost of display on the laptop, so I can confirm the desktop does load. The only problem is external display does not work.

This is not a bug in apport (the automatic crash reporting tool), but instead probably in ubiquity, xorg, xserver-xorg, xserver-xorg-video-intel, lxdm, or openbox. I am not sure which, so I'm just removing the package specification; triagers or other community members should be able to target it to the right package. If instead this is marked Incomplete with a request that you do so, and you are unable to, then I'll research the matter further and attempt to set it to the right package.

affects: apport (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

Thank you.

Yes, I got jammed by all the current bug posting advice requiring apport. Clearly I couldn't use it for this.

I chased my tail for a long while, then eventually just clicked a "report bug" link at the bottom of an existing page. Hence this mistake which required my betters to clean up. Sorry, but it was that or not report the issue. Thanks again.

Hello
can you please verify that md5sum of the downloaded and burned image match the one on the site ?
Thanks

Update.

This is still broken on the current beta lubuntu-12.04-beta1-desktop-i386.

The Fn-F8 switch between LCD & CRT works at the beginning of the boot to show the 'Choose Language' screen.

Then there's the 'Try Lubuntu' screen, followed by the 'Lubuntu .....' loading-screen. After that, the CRT goes dark. After waiting for the boot to complete, Fn-F8 does not work.

LiveCD is good; works fine on other box.

Next update.

This is still broken on the current lubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso.

Checksum is good, disk integrity is good, and it works fine on my other box. There is no change in the problem.

Woot!

You can finally close this one.

Success with the new Xubuntu 12.10.

Thanks folks.

Sorry - I should add that although this thread was origianlly about Lubuntu not Xubuntu, I have been finding the problem is common on all 'buntus. It's not sub-distro specific. Hence a win with the new Xubuntu should be considered a win overall.

thanks again.

Closing this bug as comment 7 indicates this issue was resolved in 12.10. (I do think I remember this affecting me back in 2012 too.)
