Bug Description

10.04 Beta 1 i386 CD. Startup very slow after turning off the system for about 8 hours. I cannot access my user name and password at all yet after about 10 minutes this is why I am making this report from 9.04. Also Firefox and Thunderbird seem to lock up at times and a restart seems to be the only way to unlock them, mouse is useless .

Could you post what happens when you boot? How far does it go? Does the computer post an error message? It would also help if you could check the disk for errors. Thanks!

Exactly the same problem with Beta1 (netbook remix + updates to 2010-03-26) on my Toshiba netbook NB200 11L. Takes about 5 minutes of flashing cursor and then boots straight to desktop with no splash screen or anything. Once working, programs load slowly. Networking okay. Totally new to Linux but would be prepared to try to record boot process if someone shows me how. e.g a log file I could send?

Exact same problem with Toshiba NB300 netbook (UNR 10.04 Beta1). Extremely slow boot-up process...
For the moment, I managed to solve it simply by changing the HDD SATA Controller mode from "AHCI" to "compatibility" in the BIOS.
cheers,

Experienced the same problem on Toshiba NB205.
Advice from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks/ToshibaNB205 (nohz=off) helped.

verified the same concern Toshiba nb205-210 netbook it boots to blinking cursor for 2-3 minutes the splash screen then boots but seems to work fine after that I did the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks/ToshibaNB205 (nohz=off)but only slightly faster. I can try other things if posted and will check back
