Firefox hangs and consumes all the memory

Asked by OMulti

I have started to use Ubuntu One and have synced some testdata from two PCs, one with Ubuntu 9.10 amd 64 bit and one with Ubuntu 9.10 32bit, both with desktop version. Then I installed Blindwood The first start of Firefox took some times (not seconds but minutes). I did not find all the bookmarks synchonized afterwards.
Today after reboot starting Firefox took about 3 minutes on the 32bit notebook (1x 1,6 GHz processor) and on the 64bit desktop pc (2x 23, GH2, 2GB ram) Firefox process consumed all the available memory (1.5 GB) and most of the swap space (~1.4 GB) and only after about minimum 10 minutes Firefox could be used. This hang was independent of being connected to the internet or not.
After deactivating Blindwood and restarting Firefox it ran normally again.
Installed Firefox version is:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100214 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.8
